Impressions from 2012 Welling Court

Olek for Welling Court 2012 (photo by Luna Park)

This past weekend’s third iteration of the Welling Court block party, organized by the tireless Alison and Garrison Buxton, was a huge success. The total number of walls now painted in this corner of Astoria has almost reached 100! Here’s a small taste of what went down on Saturday…

907 ADHD Wall Update

Yesterday I posted pictures of UFO, Gen2, Sadue, Darkcloud, Goya and others painting in Brooklyn. Here are some updates on what appears to be the finished wall (and bench):

UFO Sighting

With the holiday weekend and the heat wave behind us (well, hopefully), New Yorkers are getting back into their regular routines again. Luckily for us, to the 907 crew and their friends, this means painting. New work from Darkcloud, Swampy, Goya, UFO, Gen2, Sadue, Cool Cat and more was in progress today along a block in Brooklyn. With so many of my local favorites in one place, I will definitely be going back for some shots of the finished wall, so stay tuned!

Help Pandemic Gallery Get To Paris!

Pandemic

It probably wouldn’t surprise anyone who follows our blog to hear that we love Williamsburg’s Pandemic Gallery. Going to one of their openings can feel like stepping into an updated scene from Beyond The Valley of the Dolls: artists, bikers, rockers, pinatas, models, wigs and leather whips, moms offering trays of cookies…and everyone there is part of the big, happy Pandemic family. And just like in any family, from time to time, help is needed.

Pandemic has the opportunity to go global this October by participating in City Art KonT’ner, a contemporary urban art event specializing in street art, in Paris. But shipping art isn’t cheap, and the gallery needs help with the funding of $7,500 to pay for the rent of the container. Any extra money raised will go towards help the artists themselves to get to the city of lights to share in this amazing experience. Artists involved include: ARMER, BUILDMORE, CELSO, DARKCLOUD, DEUCE SEVEN, JUDITH SUPINE, KEELY, KENJI NAKAYAMA, MATT SIREN, ROYCE BANNON, STIKMAN, SWAMPY, UR NEW YORK, VENG, WRONA

In SUPPORTING Pandemic, you will not only get that warm happy feeling of having done something good, but you will also have GIFTS heaped upon you, based on the size of your donation.

So, break out your piggy banks, make a donation today, and your next shot of tequila at Pandemic is on me!

The Great Outdoors: Saturday, May 8th from 6-8

Aside from the M-City and Dolk opening at the Brooklynite Gallery this Saturday, there is one more not-to-miss opening at the Woodward Gallery. The Great Outdoors explores the inspirational effect and cultural exchange that occurs when art intended for the unprotected elements is taken and placed in an indoor-gallery setting. It features some of street art’s finest names: Royce Bannon, Darkcloud, Michael De Feo, El Celso, LA II, Kenji Nakayama, Neck Face, Lady Pink, Matt Siren, Stikman, and Swoon.

Note that this opening starts an hour before Brooklynite does, so there is definitely time to catch both!

Stokenphobia Preview

As previously mentioned, Luna Park and I are pleased to be taking part in the show “Stokenphobia” opening this Friday at Pandemic Gallery in Brooklyn. When I stopped by to drop my piece off, I was blown away by the quality of the work that is being featured in this show. Not only are the drawings by Gore B as stellar as one would expect, but many of my favorite artists have turned out some of the best work that I have seen from them in a while. Even better are the prices – whether you are a collector or just an admirer who would like to own a piece from your favorite artist (but had never been able to afford it), shows like this are an excellent opportunity to pick up a smaller work without breaking the bank. I already have dibs on the Deuce Seven boat, but there is plenty more available to choose from…or just come out and enjoy what is bound to be yet another memorable night at the always fun Pandemic Gallery!
